Manual Adjustments (HVLA Thrust)

Restoring &/or improving a joints range of motion by applying a quick (high-velocity), short (low-amplitude), thrust over restricted joints one at a time.

Adjustments can be accompanied by an audible release of gas that is caused by the release of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, releasing joint pressure, reduce nerve irritability and improve function.

Gentle Low-Force Adjustments

A small, hand-held instrument called the Activator Adjusting Instrument delivers a gentle impulse force to the spine with the goal of restoring motion to the targeted spinal vertebra or joint. It is an alternative to the traditional manual form of spinal manipulation, known as the HVLA thrust.

Soft Tissue Therapy

There are a number of soft tissue therapy techniques which can be successfully utilised to assist in the reduction of pain, muscle hypertonicity and spasm. Some of these include massage therapy, trigger point therapy, Transverse Friction Massage (TFM), Active Release Technique ® (ART), Myofascial Release (MFR), Proprioceptive Neuromuscular facilitation (PNF).

The need and benefits of these therapies vary between each patient & depending on your condition and response to treatment we may incorporate one or more of these therapies into your treatment plan.

Cupping

Cupping therapy involves the use of cups to create a local suction on the skin surface. It is used to loosen and lift connective tissue to assist in an increase of blood & lymphatic flow to the skin and the muscles; improve blood circulation, move stagnant energy, expel toxins, relax tight muscles and assist in promoting healing.

Trigger Point Dry Needling

Where a very fine solid needle is used for deactivation and desensitization of a myofascial trigger point which should stimulate a healing response in that tissue and reduce the biomechanical stress of the muscle treated.

The goal of trigger point dry needling is to permanently reduce muscle pain and dysfunction.

Taping

Rigid tape, or sports tape, is commonly used for moderate/severe joint and ligament sprains or tears. Due to the instability these injuries can create, rigid tape is often used to help the body stabilise the injured area and can often help alleviate pain as well. The tape works by restricting excessive movement of a joint and/or ligaments.

Kinesio tape, known for it’s bright colours, is like a ‘second skin’ and provides dynamic support, enabling the body to move freely.  Its an elastic-type tape that decompresses the skin directly beneath where it is applied. It can be used in the management of muscle pain, muscle cramping, tendon injuries, swelling & inflammation and bruising.

Exercise & Rehabilitation

Exercise and rehabilitation play an integral part in everyone’s recovery from pain or injury. The benefits of a good exercise and rehabilitation program include; faster recovery from your condition, less pain and it also reduces your chance of re-injury.

After your chiropractor establishes an accurate diagnosis for your condition, a treatment plan will be provided involving both hands on therapy and an exercise/rehabilitation program to assist in your recovery.

Over the course of your treatment your therapist will identify any weaknesses or muscle and joint problems that can be helped through specific exercises to be done in your own time. These may include a series of stretches, strength and movement based exercises.

Spinal & Postural Screenings
